The Forest
Through my work on the forest, I had the opportunity to explore the genre of eco horror. When first joining the project, Mustafa and I started to build the world, giving rules and boundaries based on the themes and messages he wished to portray. Seen below, these were subtle but profound ideas that affect Gen Z everyday.
Especially as we are growing older, the gen z generation is faced with a lack of stories that scare us. An eco horror focuses on the gen z psyche in a way that traditional horror doesn't. To allude to this, the aesthetic of the film draws directly from 80s indie horror.
Mustafa and I agreed on the symbols and systems of the world, building a visual language to help communicate his ideas. I was lucky enough to have a project that would allow me to do color blocking and color symbolism in an auteur-like manner. Truly could not be more grateful for this project and director for letting me design this world.
